Atkins steps in at Matlock

Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 12:10

Matlock Town today announced that their new manager will be Mark Atkins, a Premier League winner as a player with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

Almost half of Atkins’ 568 Football League appearances came during seven years at Blackburn and he cost Wolves £1m when he moved on.

Now 40, Atkins finished his playing career in 2004 at Harrogate Town.

He inherits a Matlock side in some disarray in the UniBond League Premier Division.

Since parting with joint managers Gareth Williams and Phil Brown after an FA Trophy exit to Warrington Town last month, they have taken one point from six league matches.
